Ahoy! Sea witches from the Midcoast join Portland’s premier pirate band fer a nautical-themed party like none ye’ve ever seen afore.
THE MERMAIDS are a captivating trio hailing from Midcoast Maine. Their music takes listeners on a dreamy, theatrical, and fun adventure at sea, blending rich three-part vocal harmony with a modern folk sensibility to deliver fresh takes on sea shanties, covers, and original songs.
THE SHANK PAINTERS are a pirate-themed folk music trio based in Portland, Maine. The band’s repertoire consists of Shanties – a variety of mostly nautical classic folk songs with catchy sing-along refrains, beloved by children and rowdy drunks alike. These works are treasures of history, preserving the travails and spirit from centuries of seafaring culture.
Come one come all fer this festive evenin’ o’ chantey, dance, ‘n drink! Costumes are encouraged!!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Formed in the Summer of 2016, THE SHANK PAINTERS began performing at Portland’s First Friday Art Walk and has since performed at festivals, parties, pub crawls, restaurants, and bars all over New England. Bringing together accordion, voices, banjo, and guitar, the Shank Painters bring the past alive with their mixture of playful, rollicking, heartbreaking, and hilarious songs. The band includes Captain Nobeard (Elizabeth Leibiger), Trouble von Bellows (Charlie Swerdlow), & Fair B. Rapscallion (Fairen Stark).
THE MERMAIDS formed in 2021 and are a harmonious rotating collective of sirens, nyads, and other assorted sea creatures and maidens. The current lineup features the fabulous Mary Fairfield, longtime star of the San Francisco Shotgun Players, Arla Jean Gray who recently appeared as a lobster in the Belfast Maskers Festival of One Act Plays and will star as Lady of the Lake in the upcoming Watts Hall Player’s production of “Spamalot”, and founding member Anna Jones who manages legendary Maine folklorist and musician Gordon Bok and wrangles the Midcoast Community Chorus when not roaming the depths.
