Portland has unveiled its newest mural, located on the corner of Congress and Center Street. Titled ‘Portland Maine Travel Decal,’ the mural was designed by the creative duo Victor Ving and Lisa Beggs, who are the driving force behind Greetings Tour. Since 2014, Greetings Tour has been a nationwide public art project, working with communities and local artists to create postcard-inspired murals that capture the essence of each city they visit.
The Portland mural draws inspiration from the classic decals of Lindgren Turner Co., popular mid-century travel souvenirs. Its style is a timeless symbol of Americana, evoking memories of summer road trips from days gone by.
Next to the ‘Portland Maine Travel Decal,’ you’ll find another breathtaking mural created by the Best Artist(s) of the 2024 Portland Old Port Awards, Portland-based duo Ryan & Rachel Gloria Adams. Their piece, titled ‘Heart Of The City Volume 4,’ showcases a unique blend of the couple’s distinctive art styles, combining Ryan’s geometric ‘gem style’ with Rachel’s intricate ‘quilt style’ designs. Notably, Rachel also created the backdrop for the postcard mural, incorporating her signature quilt pattern to tie the two works together beautifully.
