Friday, January 8: If you have little ones, or are just a sucker for watching people execute triple axels while dressed up as Cinderella or Buzz Lightyear, then tonight is your night as Disney on Ice Treasure Trove will be bringing a little Disney magic to the Cross Insurance Center. Several Disney princesses will appear, including Ariel, Belle, Mulan and Jasmine. Peter Pan and Captain Hook will also be on hand, as well as Simba, Nala, Pumbaa and Timon from “The Lion King.” Tickets start at $15, and there are additional performances also scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. 7 p.m., Cross Insurance Arena, 1 Civic Center Square.
Saturday, January 9: In addition to presents from Santa, another gift received by many folks across Maine this holiday season was a sparkly new engagement ring. If you are planning on tying the knot in 2016 or 2017 you will want to be sure to head to the Holiday Inn by the Bay this weekend for The Portland Wedding Show. Think of it as one-stop shopping for everything you will need for your wedding day, from bridal gowns and tuxedos, to photographers and DJs, to rental companies and florists, as well as our favorite – the cake makers! The show takes place Saturday, January 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $10. Holiday Inn by the Bay, 88 Spring Street.
We are over a week into the new year – how many of you have stuck to your New Year’s resolutions? Us either, so we’ll see you tonight at H.O.M.E. for Indulgence: Broken Resolutions. What better way to at least try to keep the resolution to exercise more than by hitting up Jya Marie Presents monthly dance party? That sounds WAY more fun than the treadmill to us. The band will be cranking out hits by artists such as Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Sia, Daft Punk, Hall & Oates and Amy Winehouse. Doors are at 9 and the party gets going at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are only $5 or $7 at the door. Portland House of Music and Events, 25 Temple Street.
Sunday, January 10: As long as you aren’t actively keep those resolutions, there’s no better way to wrap up your weekend than by attending the Kick that Keg Closing Party at the White Cap Grille. They will be closing on Monday for some major renovations, which will potentially also include a menu and/or name change. So today is the day to help send this incarnation of the White Cap Grille off in style until they return better than ever. There will be several food and beverage specials as the restaurant owners look to us for help cleaning out their pantry and, most importantly, kicking all those kegs! The fun begins at 11:30 a.m. and is pay as you go. White Cap Grille, 164 Middle Street.
