
Portland, Maine has it going on this weekend! Attend a pop-up speakeasy, the Women’s March, a chili cook-off, a comedy roast battle, or Cherry Lemonade’s performance! There’s no shortage of fun events to check out!
Friday
Play Your Way: Visit with Portland Police Department at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine from 5-7pm. This is a free interactive playtime for children with sensory integration challenges. This is a great opportunity for families who need a quieter time to explore the museum and theatre. Noise reducing headphones will be available! Officer Coreena from the Portland Police Department will be there to play and answer any questions about how to talk to your child about the police and to serve as an introduction to community helpers!
Peek into the past at Oxbow’s Hindsight 2020 event starting at noon. There will be a lignup of 20 vintage brews and a DJ spinning from 7-11pm.
This Friday is the anniversary of 100 years since the enactment of prohibition, and to celebrate there’s a Madame Genever Speakeasy Pop-up at Sur Lie from 4-10pm. Dress in your best flapper dress and roaring twenties style! Prohibition-era inspired drinks will be served with chef Jef Wright’s specials menu.
Attend Plague’s Midwinter Masquerade Ball from 9pm-1am. This event is described as romantic, enchanting, and mysterious! Plus, If you dress in your midwinter’s best you might win the costume contest! There will be DJs and a vendor selling jewelry. This is a 21+ event and tickets are $5.
A Pop Up Open Mic at Empire Comedy Club will be from 9:30-11pm. If you’re a comedian, come down and test your material! If you’re a comedy fan come down for a laugh! Entrance is free, but this is a 21+ event.
Saturday
Women’s March Portland: We Demand! starts at 10:30am in Monument Square and will end at Portland Highschool. At the highschool there will be speakers and later the Women’s March Fair. The fair will have booths of local organizations, light refreshments, music, art projects, and break out sessions. Learn more on their Facebook page!
Check out Stoutfest 2020 at Novare Res at 12pm. They will be serving rare Stouts on draught and from the bottle! It’s recommended that you get there early so you don’t miss out! There will also be food specials that complement the beer.
Sate your appetite at the Bunker Brewing Co. Chili Cook-off! Sample chili from Portland Restaurant Chefs and cast your vote for the best! Plus, listen to the judges talk chili and watch them cast votes of their own. The event runs from 1-5pm. Tickets are $10 and proceeds go to the United Way Keep Me Warm program which gives helps provide fuel to Maine residents in need.
Grab a ticket to the Maine Motorsports XIIR Championships at 7pm. This Extreme International Ice Racing event takes place at Cross Insurance Arena. Tickets are $10-$25 and you can also attend the Fast Track Pre Party and gain access to meet and greet with a rider!
Stop by Fore Play Sports Pub for the UFC 246 Viewing Party. They will be showing McGregor vs. Cerrone at 8pm. There is a cover of $10 and entrance is first come first serve. Their upstairs will be open with a DJ and the fight playing on over 25 TVs!
Head over to FLASK LOUNGE for Coven Club: A Dance Party for Queer Witches from 9:30pm-1am. All are welcome! There’s no cover charge but this is a 21+ event.
Sunday
Grab your creative caps and head to the Magic Mood Mud: Color Changing Play Dough Workshop at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine from 11:30am-12pm. This experiment is the perfect chance to learn about heat and how it moves! Tickets are $8 and members get a 10% discount.
Portland Symphony Orchestra presents Romantic Tchaikovsky from 2:30-4:30pm at Merrill Auditorium. There are adult, senior 65+, child, and student tickets available online.
BYOB (Bring Your Own Baby) New Parent Mingle at Little Tap House will be from 3:30-5:30pm! Meet other new parents and enjoy happy hour specials!
Ian Stuart presents Comedy Roast Battle at the Portland House of Music and Events from 6pm-12am! Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 day of. The doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. This is a 21+ event so don’t forget your ID!
Check out Cherry Lemonade Live at Blackstones at 8pm! On January 25th Cherry Lemonade will be passing the crown on to one of the six Miss Blackstones contestants. This will be her final home performance as the reigning Miss Blackstones 2019. After the show there will be a dance party so don’t forget your dancing shoes! This is a 21+ event.
