UPDATE: There will not be a Bug Light Kite Festival in 2023. That doesn’t mean you can’t come down and enjoy some wonderful kite flying, however. On Saturday, May 20, the NorEasters Kite Club will be holding their own club fly – called the Bug Light Fun Fly. These are the same people who have always flown the kites at the past kite festivals and you can often find them in Bug Light Park on a sunny day in the summer. In addition to the Bug Light Fun Fly on May 20, they’ll be flying on the 4th of July during our classic car show, and they have several other days planned. The historical society’s museum in the park will be open (opening May 1st) and we’ll have a large selection of kites for sale in the gift shop throughout the season. You can see the NorEasters 2023 event calendar here: https://sites.google.com/…/noreaster…/Home/calendar-2023 The club members are wonderful. Anytime you see them, if you have questions about how to fly a kite, or questions about their amazing kites, they’d be happy to talk with you. If there’s a business in the community who we haven’t spoken with, who might be interested in being a title sponsor for a future kite festival, please message us

After a brief hiatus, the Bug Light Kite Festival will return in May. Starting at 11 AM, you can head on over to the South Portland park to enjoy kites of all shapes and colors as they take to the sky.
Bring your own kite, or purchase a kite while there!
Hosted by South Portland Historical Society and Nor’Easters Kite Club and Kites Over New England.
