Spooky Night: Sandra Miller and Kate Flora in conversation with novelist Lisa Carey
Join us in welcoming Sandra Miller and Kate Flora on Friday October 27th, just in time for Halloween, to discuss their recent psychological thrillers with novelist Lisa Carey. The perfect event to get you in the mood for spooky season!
Sandra A. Miller is the author of the award-winning memoir Trove: A Woman’s Search for Truth and Buried Treasure. She has written for The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, and many other publications. Her essay about her unconventional love story with her husband was made into the short film Wait, directed by Trudie Styler and starring Kerry Washington. She teaches writing at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and lives outside of Boston with her family.
Kate Flora’s is the author of twenty-six books spanning many genres including crime fiction, true crime, memoir, romantic suspense, and nonfiction, and many short stories. Flora’s been a finalist for the Edgar, Agatha, Anthony, and Derringer awards. She won the Public Safety Writers Association award for nonfiction and twice won the Maine Literary Award for crime fiction. Flora has taught writing for the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, Brown University Continuing Education, The Cambridge Center for Adult Education, the Cape Cod Writers Conference, and for Grub Street in Boston. She’s a former international president of Sisters in Crime, and a founder of the New England Crime Bake and the Maine Crime Wave conferences. Flora’s latest books include the stand-alone domestic suspense Teach Her a Lesson, published in May, 2023 by Encircle Publications, and Death Sends a Message, the 12th Thea Kozak mystery. Lisa Carey is the author of five novels, including The Stolen Child and The Mermaids Singing. Her novels have been translated into twelve languages, optioned for film, and are the winners of a Lambda Literary Award for Fiction and a Massachusetts Book Award. She lived in Ireland for five years and now resides in Portland, Maine, with her husband and their son.
Lisa and Sandra met in 1993, when they were roommates at the Vermont College MFA in Writing program. They became lifelong friends and still edit each other’s writing over coffee and popovers.
