Nosh Taco, briefly known as Taco A Go Go, is gearing up to open its doors at 5 Canal Plaza. Conceived by the team at Nosh Kitchen Bar, this culinary venture promises a fast-casual dining experience infused with Californian vibes. The menu is a diverse mix of tacos, burritos, and enticing drink specials.
In 2017, East Brown Cow Management, owners of Canal Plaza, undertook a $5 million upgrade, building a 1,500-square-foot kiosk that transformed the open space. Formerly concealed by a grove of tall trees in concrete planters, this distinctive building is now the chosen home for Nosh Taco.
Prior to Nosh Taco’s imminent arrival, the space was occupied by the Canadian chain Copper Branch, which opened in 2019 but shuttered its doors in 2022. Anticipation is building for the much-awaited grand opening of Nosh Taco, scheduled for the end of November 2023.
Reflecting on the history of Canal Plaza, the original transformation took place in the 1970s with the construction of three office structures, including the Canal Bank headquarters.
Before this redevelopment, the area held the prestigious Falmouth Hotel, a six-story marvel that emerged two years after Portland’s Great Fire of 1866. The hotel graced the landscape until its demolition in 1963. Keep an eye out for the revival of Canal Plaza as Nosh Taco prepares to make its mark.
