In June 2023, the Portland Planning Board granted approval for the transformation of the currently vacant 10-story office structure located at 511 Congress Street, rebranded as Ocean Gate Plaza, into a residential development.
Ocean Gate LLC, the building owners, have outlined their vision to convert 511 Congress Street into a total of 107 housing units. Among these, 77 units will feature one-bedroom layouts, 30 will be studio apartments, and 27 units are designated for workforce housing.
Anticipated commencement of construction is slated for January of the current year, with an estimated project duration of approximately 18 months, aiming for completion in the summer of 2025.
