For the Kids/ Family:
Get ready for a HOOTING good time at the Children’s Museum and Theatre this Halloween season!
Children and their caregivers are invited to a series of not-so-scary Halloween celebration events for children and their families. Expect a range of activities that will invite you to hoot & howl your way through museum exhibits, including indoor trick-or-treating, exploring spine-tingling animal artifacts and specimens, meeting misunderstood characters in a special interactive performance at Maddy’s Theatre, and creating creepy crafts in the MakerSpace.
There’s even a special Hoot & How celebration for those tiny tots! Celebrate Halloween with a silly & not-so-scary party ideal for ages 0 to 4 and their caregivers. Wear your favorite costume, create a toddler-friendly Halloween craft in CMTM’s MakerSpace, explore animal artifacts, and trick or treat your way through the museum exhibits. Toddler-friendly and non-candy options are available.

Spooktacular Songs & Storytime
Dive into spooky stories and catchy Halloween tunes at Spooktacular Songs and Storytime with James Kennerley and The Kotzschmar Organ!
Perfect for little goblins and ghouls. Get into the Halloween spirit and wear your most spooktacular costumes for this morning of fun, featuring the book-mobile from the Portland Public Library, a 10-minute kid-friendly silent film with musical overlay from James Kennerley on the Kotzschmar Organ, an amazingly spooky Kotzschmar Organ demonstration, and a costume parade across the stage. Don’t miss this thrilling Halloween adventure—reserve your spot now!

Forget “School of Rock”…get ready for “Ghoul of Rock”!
Each Halloween season Maine Academy of Modern Music’s (MAMM) student rock bands melt faces at the creepiest all-ages costume party in town. Come witness the terror at One Longfellow Square and ring in the spookiest time of year with MAMM! Costumes are highly encouraged.

The businesses of Exchange Street have come together for their 3rd annual family-friendly trick or treating event!
Visit downtown Portland for this free event for children ages 0-10ish. Dress the entire family, including pets, in adorably scary costumes and haunt local businesses for a sweet treat.
Look for the orange posters and window signs to know which businesses are participating this year!

Adults only this time around as the Children’s Museum and Theatre prepares for howling Halloween fun!
After Dark Halloween is a night-time event, and boo-bash, just for kids-at-heart. After Dark festivities include adult trick-or-treating, festive bites, seasonal sips for purchase, hauntingly creative crafts, Hoot & Howl decor, and delicious apps and snacks. Includes access to three floors of exhibits, activities, refreshments, and fun for those 21+.
Proceeds from After Dark support CMTM’s Community Fund, helping to open the door to all children and families.

A spookt-acular time awaits at the annual East Bayside Halloween Fest- back again for another year! This all-day event brings the community together for a good cause, raising funds for Maine Needs.
Explore the neighborhood and enjoy food and drink specials, pumpkin carving, live music, and costume contests. Don’t miss the Dog Costume Contest at Rising Tide Brewing Co., plus more fun at participating spots like Toad & Co., Austin Street Brewery Goodfire Brewing Co., Indigo Arts Alliance, Three of Strong Spirits, Belleflower Brewing Co., Dean’s Sweats, and more. Join in the fun while supporting Mainers in need!

A spooky shopping spree! The Spooky Fete Market is taking over Austin Street Brewery!
Expect eerie, creepy-crawly goodies from local artists and vendors, delicious “spooky dogs” from Vintage Dogs Maine, and a festive, Halloween-ready atmosphere. Costumes are encouraged, so come dressed to impress and celebrate in true spooky style! Happening as part of the East Bayside Halloween Fest.

Get ready for a ghoulishly good time at the Great Pumpkin Ball—Maine’s largest LGBTQ+ Halloween dance party!
Hosted by Gigi Gabor at the State Theatre, this is the ultimate night of costumes, drag, and spooktacular performances featuring some of Maine’s fiercest LGBTQ+ talent. Dance the night away with DJs Keith James and Ben Spalding, and cheer on your favorite local queens and kings in the costume and Scream Queen contests – including the Curbside Queens, Kings of the Hill, Big Kings, and Golden Goddess Productions. VIP tickets get you exclusive merch and access to a private bar, but no matter how you join, it’s a night you won’t want to miss.

Join Feel Good Portland on board the Casco Cat for their 4th annual Portland Pirate Cruise to get you and your crew into the Halloween spirit!
Guests will enjoy a 2.5hr sunset tour of Casco Bay and live dance music from DJ Fatty Shay. They will be offering some feelgood merch prizes to the three best costumes so have fun with the theme! There will be 100 Love Point Oysters that are first come, first serve! Otherwise, feel free to bring your own snacks if desired.
