Friday
The Heart, Soul & Substance Music Festival kicks off on House Island! Music will start at 3 pm both Friday and Saturday with complimentary shuttle service to and from the island, Maine beer and food trucks!
It’s the First Friday of the month which means the First Friday Art Walk will be taking over Congress Street starting at 5 and while you’re in the Arts District, stop by Empire for First Friday Comedy! Philly to Maine presented by Lone Pine Brewing! Check out 3 Philadelphia based comics, including Mel Harris, Omar Scruggs, and Jamil B. for a night of laughter.
If comedy isn’t your thing, Fat Knuckle Freddy will be on the Slab patio stage at 8 pm, bringing his American Primitive Music. All you need to do is bring your listening ears (and maybe an empty stomach because, well, hand slabs.)
OR, if Electro-Trap and Dubstep are more your style, Yung Abner will be spinning at Rhum from 8 on! Get your “weird bass” on while sipping on fruity tropical drinks.
Saturday
Saturday is surely a day for the lover of music of any genre in Portland!
Heart, Soul & Substance Day 2 commences, starting with Tim Mercer and ending with Hannah Daman and The Martel Sisters featuring The Maine Youth Rock Orchestra with lots of killer acts in between!
Get ready for radical rock, ruckus, more beer, and more pizza when Wyld Lyfe plays on the Slab stage at 8 pm!
Yet another Thompson’s Point show for the summer, but this time they’re reinventing live performance by taking it from the traditional theater setting and reimagining it in a fully immersive, multi-sensory environment: a 54’x90’ sail tent at No Plan B. Not your average concert!
The Early Mornings are playing at Empire from 9 pm until 1 am to celebrate the release of their self-titled debut album and will be accompanied by Jacob McCurdy and Xander Nelson.
Also at 9 pm, and of a completely different genre, Jamaican Reggae and dancehall deejay, Yellowman will be playing at Aura.
Sunday
Start your afternoon off the Sea Dogs game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 1 pm! This game is extra special because it’s also the annual Field of Dreams/Fan Appreciation Day!
It wouldn’t be right to indulge in a little beer since Monday is Labor Day, would it!? Performing live at Rising Tide Brewing Company from 1-4pm is Keanu Keanu. Admission is free, beer is fresh, and music is on point!
… Speaking of day-drinking on a Sunday- As always, Tiki Bowls are 30% off at Rhum starting at noon! After all, don’t they always say, “friends that sip together, stay together”?
AND if Sundays at Stroudwater Distillery at noon brings you to Thompson’s Point for cocktails… Why not check out the new menu at Big J’s Chicken Shack while you’re at it?
In true Old Orchard Beach fashion, get your hot dogs, funnel cakes, and everything nostalgic at OOB Night at Bramhall from 4 pm-close!
3 pm brings Portland fave, The Dapper Gents to the Slab patio stage and so ends the third to last Slab Summer Music Series weekend! Only a few more chances left to enjoy delicious pizza and beer in the company of great music (not to mention Slab’s patio being the only outdoor music venue in Downtown Portland)!
For the country music lovers out there, Scotty McCreery of American Idol will be performing at Aura at 8 pm!
