What’s a week in Portland without a new restaurant reveal, a food truck debut and a birthday celebration that symbolizes the city’s thriving foodie scene? To foodies’ delight, this week saw the opening of a new neighborhood restaurant and bar, a debut of a wood fire pizza food truck and a 1st birthday for beloved bite-sized donuts.
Here’s a look of what happened in the Portland, Maine food scene from July 18th – 24th, 2022.
1. Truckin Pizza Debuts at Lone Pine Brewing Co.
Hitting the streets for their awaited debut, Truckin Pizza food truck spent last weekend showing off their wood fire pizza skills at Lone Pine Brewing Co. in Portland.
Offering up wood fire pizza, Truckin Pizza’s menu includes specialty pies such as the B-Sting with mozzarella, tomato sauce, pepperoni, pickled jalapeño and chili oil; The Meatball with blistered shishito peppers, red onion, mozzarella and provolone tomato sauce and more. 2. The Danforth Opens in the West End
The West End gained a new neighborhood restaurant and bar this past Friday, July 22nd, 2022, with The Danforth officially opening their doors at 211 Danforth Street in the former home of Little Giant.
Categorized as an American restaurant, The Danforth offers a strong cocktail program based on quality and comfort, in addition to “nostalgic classics that serve as the foundation for new memories.” Menu will consists of “seasonal ingredients built into nourishing dishes, simply and honestly presented.”
In a statement made via social media:
“Friends, join us this evening for our first night of service at The Danforth!
We’re so excited to officially welcome you to The Danforth, a neighborhood restaurant serving comforting, local fare and fine cocktails. Tonight is a culmination of creativity and hard work by an incredible team and the support of our amazing community, and we can’t wait for you to experience all we have to offer.
We open at 4pm at the bar and 6pm for dinner with seating on a first come, first served basis. We’ll begin taking reservations next week – stay tuned for details.
Stop by for a drink, share a few dishes, and raise a glass with us!”
The Danforth is owned and operated by Gin & Luck, the parent company of the popular Death & Company, with locations in NYC, LA and Denver.

3. Eighty 8 Donuts Celebrates 1 Year
Hot n’ fresh outta Portland, Eighty 8 Donuts celebrated the 1st anniversary of their Old Port shop this past Friday, July 22nd, 2022.
Offering up made-to-order gourmet bite-sized donuts, Eighty 8 Donuts launched their first truck in 2013, which then grew with the addition of their seasonal ski shop at Sugarloaf Mountain around 2015/2016, and their counter-service shop at 225 Federal Street which opened in 2021.
In a statement made via social media:
“Well, that went by in a blink! Friday, July 22nd, marks one year since we opened for service at our Federal Street shop. We’ve learned a lot and have made many friends and at least a few new fans in that time! We’re grateful for all of you that have found us on the truck, followed us to Sugarloaf and were along for the ride to Federal Street…”
Current hours at the shop are Monday – Friday 8 AM – 4PM, Saturday 9 AM – 4PM, Sunday 9 AM – 3 PM.
