It’s all about the beer this weekend in Portland, Maine (but what else is new?)! As the first day of fall, this city is giving summer nothing short of the proper farewell.
Friday
Getting your weekend off to a good start is a pre-Beer Meets Wood festival pre-game at the Craft Beer Cellar where you can sample Allagash Curieux, Rodenbach Classic, Urban Farm Fermentory Baby Jimmy, & Jack’s Abby Cordon Rouge, all of which are barrel aged beers, from 4-5!
Immediately after you can head on down to the Beer Meets Wood Pre-ThrowDown at Novare Res! This event is a MAJOR tap takeover including some of the brewers’ barrel aged (and otherwise) beers that will be featured at Saturday’s festival. But get there early, this event is first-come-first-serve and ends at 8!
If you’re looking for a more family-oriented activity, bring the kids down to the Eastern Prom where they’re playing The Goonies under the stars! Admission is free, but it’s asked that you bring along a non-perishable food item for the Locker Project food program (as well as a few blankets and snacks for yourself)!
The evening brings good music and tiki vibes to the Old Port as The Dapper Gents perform live at Rhum! ALOHA, free admission, tropical drinks, and great music!
Saturday
The Beer Meets Wood festival is here! Starting at noon, the largest collection of wood-aged beers on the East Coast will be at the Portland Company Complex. Attendees will be able to try over 200 beers from 20 states and Belgium. More than 50 acclaimed breweries are bringing their A-game in fresh or toasted oak, American or French, bourbon or wine-soaked, aged for months or years, or all funked up with wild yeast and bacteria, beer + wood goodness! You don’t want to miss this two-session event (12-3:30p and 6-9:30p)!
The Family Restored foundation is holding their 4th Annual Run/Walk fundraiser honoring the memories of those lost to the disease of addiction and raising money to support those seeking recovery. This event is being held on the Back Cove trail and begins 1:30, get your Saturday workout in for a good cause!
The Head and The Heart are performing live on the Thompson’s Point stage! Before the show, grab some beers at Bissell Brothers, a chicken sandwich at Big J’s, and you’ve got yourself a night on Thompson’s Point!
Keeping with the theme of barrel brewed beers of the weekend, the Little Tap House is hosting a Barreled Souls brewers’ night and tap takeover! Brews will be tapped for Brunch at 11 am and poured until they’re gone!
Sunday
It’s Sunday Runday with the Thick Quad Squad! Join them at 8:30 am at Coffee By Design (East Bayside), run a few miles with a friendly crew, and end back at CBD for coffee and food in good company!
The final installment of Sundays at the Stroudwater Distillery is here! Take this summer send off and do it right with cocktails, food trucks, football, and more!
It might be the first weekend of Fall, but Maine Craft Distilling is insisting it’s still summer (and we’re thinking the weather might agree) at their Still Summer Block Party! Tickets are $12 if you buy them in advance, there’ll be live music, food & beverages from some of Portland’s faves, as well as cocktails and tastings galore from the distillery itself!
A Sizzling Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan is going down at the Portland House of Music and Events from 7pm-1am! This concert is to benefit the Red Cross’s Hurricane Harvey Fund and features a killer lineup of Maine’s best blues rockers!
