After what feels like months of rain, sunny summer days are officially here! This weekend is all about celebrating summer in Portland, Maine!
Friday: Start Friday with a feel-good event. Gather at Ocean Gateway for the 2nd annual Rock Lobster Relay. Come run with your friends and see 200 miles of the beautiful; coast of Maine. Not into running? That’s ok! Midsummer Eve party starts at 5 and they are celebrating summer the Scandinavian way. There will be lots of music, oysters, cocktails and sweets, don’t miss it. Keep on dancing at Salsa in the Park! This is a free event with live music outdoors, it just doesn’t get any better than that! Do you have a furry family member that is always being left out? Planet Dog is hosting Bark in the Park from 7-10 at Hadlock Field. Today you can watch your favorite home town baseball team with your best dog friend. While you’re at Hadlock Field why not participate in their Welcome to Summer Celebration. The first 1,000 people entering the park will be given Hawaiian Leis. Dig out your Hawaiian shirts and come play ball! From 8-10 head to b.Good for a burger, real fries and live music featuring Ryan & Lucas. Later, help Port City Hall welcome Spose w/ Cam Groves, God.Damn.Chan and Shane Reid. This show is going to be awesome, dude we aren’t lying. If your mom won’t let you borrow her ride to go see Spose head over to the State Theater to see Johnnyswim. Doors open at 8 and the show starts at 9. VIP tickets include a meet and greet, individual photos with Johnnyswim, exclusive merchandise, early access, and a discount merchandise table. If you want to listen to some live music, but big venues aren’t your scene head over to Rhum Food & Grog to see Danny & Jake while you enjoy one of Rhum’s signature cocktails.
Saturday: After all the excitement on Friday you deserve to sleep in a little. When you wake up head on over to Standard Baking Co. for their Bakery Open House from 11-2. Get a behind the scenes look at bakery operations in small your groups. You will learn about the bread making process and have a chance to taste a variety of breads and pastries. Once you’ve eaten your weight in fresh baked goodies head over to Casablanca Cruises for the 4th Annual PMD Booze Cruise. Get your tickets early to guarantee your spot on board. If you are prone to sea sickness make your way to the Allagash Street Fair. The festivities start at 1 and continue until 6. There will be live music, performances, fun events, and of course, great locally brewed beer. The best part of the Allagash Street Fair is a portion of the proceeds from each beer purchased goes to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway Charity- a nonprofit created to enhance the wilderness character of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, protect its environment, and preserve this incredible piece of Maine. Keep the party going with the Big Summer Kickoff at Portland House of Music. Celebrate Maine’s best time of year with music, drinks and friends.
Sunday: Sunday begins with the Women’s Holistic and Spiritual Wellness Expo from 10-3. Relax, grab a mimosa and shop while you explore the spiritual aspect of women’s holistic health and wellness. This event offers workshops, meditation and readings. Come hungry, a brunch menu will also be featured. Prizes will be given out throughout the event, admission is free and parking is free. Sunday funday continues with the Kilcollins Booze Cruise. Kick off another summer on the water with Casablanca Cruises. Tickets are $20. Wind down the weekend at Slab at their Summer Music Series: A Band Beyond Description. Music starts at 3 and they play until 6. Grab a hand slab and beer for a relaxing end to the weekend.
