Day’s Jewelers, originally known as Day’s Department Store, operated at 489 Congress Street from 1927 to 1972. The store specialized in jewelry, timepieces, radios, televisions, and household appliances. In 1972, Day’s relocated to 540 Congress Street, continuing its business there until 1985. Today, the historic 489 Congress Street location is home to the Maine Historical Society and the Wadsworth-Longfellow House.
