Friday, January 1: Shake off that hangover at the 2016 Pajama Jammy Jam Brunch at MJ’s Wine Bar. Wear your favorite PJs to MJ’s and indulge in $4 waffles with strawberries, accompanied by $3 bubbles. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., MJ’s Wine Bar, 1 City Center.
Now that you’ve brunched and recovered from last night’s overindulgence, get inspired at this month’s First Friday Art Walk. In case you didn’t know, it’s the largest free monthly cultural event in Maine, so get out there and support our vibrant arts community. Some of the stops we recommend this month include the Faces of Thailand photography exhibit at Dobra Tea (89 Exchange Street) and The Great N.C. Wyeth Caper: Paintings by America’s Storyteller at the Portland Museum of Art (7 Congress Square). In case you aren’t familiar with the tale, six paintings by Wyeth were recovered this summer after being stolen 18 months ago in what the FBI called one of the largest property thefts in Maine history. The paintings are only on display at the Portland Museum of Art through January 3, so this is the perfect chance to see them while you can. 5-8 p.m., various locations throughout Portland.
Saturday, January 2: The Maine Dead Project will be performing their first Portland show since the summer at Portland House of Music and Events. They will be presenting The Closing of Winterland in its entirety. Tickets are only $8 in advance or $10 at the door, so break out the patchouli and your favorite tie-died outfit. 8 p.m., Portland House of Music and Events, 25 Temple Street.
Sunday, January 3: Henna body art is a tradition thousands of year old, and one that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike. The Eye of Henna is holding a Henna workshop on Sunday for families to come and learn more about the culture and history of Henna body art, and also practice drawing and using Henna on each other. Tickets are $20 for one adult and one child, and $10 for each additional child. 2-4 p.m., The Eye of Henna, 142 High Street, Suite 217. Call 207-761-0636 for more information.
