Friday March 10th– FUN FACT FRIDAY: The American Civil Liberties Union of Maine (previously the Maine Civil Liberties Union) was founded in 1968 with the purpose of advancing and preserving civil liberties of Maine people through litigation, advocacy, public education and lobbying. Join them, Spizzy Spose, and an amazing line-up of additional music performances from Weakened Friends, Bright Boy, Jeff Beam, Sunset Hearts, Amarantos Quartet and Anna Lombard all in one night at Port City Music Hall for The ACLU Benefit Concert. Saturday March 11th– Saint Patrick’s Day is almost here and that means the annual Shamrock Shuffle Pub Crawl and Photo Scavenger Hunt returns to Portland! Check-in is at 11am, crawl begins at NOON. This annual Saint Patty’s Day tradition is brought to you by PortSports Social Club– tickets here.
Mad Love: A Golden Night for Madison’s Future will be taking place at Cellardoor Winery At The Point this Saturday. This event is near and dear to our heart. We want to do our best to spread the word and gather as a community to raise awareness about childhood cancer and how we all can make a difference. Join us, and Cellardoor Winery At The Point for an evening of Gold to raise money for an amazing cause! The evening will include an Open Bar with a wonderful selection of Cellardoor’s award winning wines, local craft beer, substantial hors d’oeuvres, and live entertainment. All proceeds for this event will go directly to Madison’s medical bills. Attire is Semi-Formal with a Gold theme. Tickets are $80/person and can be found by following the link. This is a 21+ event.
Devendra Banhart arrives at Port City Music Hall, and guys, we are excited! Banhart’s music is often associated with the New Weird America genre, along with Vetiver and Joanna Newsom. SPIN magazine has written that “Banhart’s albums offer ashram-appropriate guitar strums, trippy-hippie tone poetry.” This guy is good! Sunday march 12th– Sundays are for family and friends. Gather together to celebrate The Annual Saint Patrick’s Parade hosted by The Irish American Club of Maine. The parade begins at 12:00pm and starts at the Portland Fish Pier near the Center Street intersection and proceeds to the reviewing stand at Bell Buoy Park, at the base of Franklin Street next to the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal. Several bands and marchers will line in procession with local union representatives and public safety representatives from local police and fire departments. You can look forward to seeing other local favorites such as Sea Dog’s Slugger, Oakhurst’s Okie the Acorn, Ernie the Cport Starfish, and MaineBusters (GhostBusters). Sponsors of the Parade include Bull Feeney’s Irish Restaurant and Pub, Ri Ra’ s Irish Restaurant and Pub, and the Maine Police Emerald Society.
With Maine Restaurant Week coming to a close, send this 12-day celebration out in style with Spirit Quest, a self-guided walking tour throughout the Old Port and Arts District Restaurants. Ticket holders will be supplied with a map and check in (starting) location one week in advance of the event date. This cocktail and paired bites walking tour begins at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
