Friday, November 27: Once you’ve come out of your food coma and finished snapping up those Black Friday deals, be sure to join your fellow Christmas revelers in Monument Square for the annual lighting of the Christmas tree. This year will feature the musical stylings of Rick Charette & The Bubblegum Band, The Jason Spooner Band and special guest…Santa Claus himself! 5:30 p.m., Monument Square. Free!
Saturday, November 28: Support local Portland businesses and Preble Street at Saturday’s Shop for a Cause. A portion of all sales at participating merchants will directly benefit Preble Street and their efforts to help people faced with poverty, homelessness and hunger. Some of the stores taking part include Coastal Maine Popcorn, D. Cole Jewelers, justKim, Lisa-Marie’s Made in Maine, Nomia, Swiss Time and Vena’s Fizz House, You can check out the full list of shops lending their support to Preble Street here. Starts at 10 a.m., various stores throughout Portland, pay as you go, obviously.
Sunday, November 29: You’ve made it through four days of food and family, treat yourself with the 13th Annual Beatles Night at the State Theatre. This year event founder Spencer Albee along with musical guests Jonathan Truman (The Band Apollo, Spencer Albee), Sean Morin (The Cambiata, Mai Mai, Sara Hallie Richardson), Jon Roods (Paranoid Social Club, Rustic Overtones), Sara Hallie Richardson and Dan Capaldi (Sea Level) and a host of others will perform some of the Beatles greatest songs, ranging from their early hits up through some songs from the Beatles’ later solo careers. There will also be a toy drive for Toys for Tots, so please bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate if you can to help brighten a needy child’s Christmas. Tickets are $18 in advance or $20 the day of the show. 4 p.m., the State Theatre, 609 Congress Street.
